Eight new M&A transactions were announced during the week ended 22 July, up from just three during the week prior. Year-to- date (YTD), announced deal volume remains down slightly from 2018 levels. The week’s most notable deal was Arsenal Capital’s acquisition of Clariant’s healthcare packaging business for 308 million Swiss francs ($314 million). The business is one of three that Clariant has recently put on the selling block. Others include pigments and standard masterbatches operations, and Clariant says it is on track to complete these divestments by 2020. Arsenal Capital is a major private equity investor in chemicals assets.
