Nippon Shokubai to build acrylic acid plant in Indonesia

Nippon Shokubai says it plans to build an acrylic acid plant at Cilegon, Indonesia. The company will invest $200 million to construct the plant, with a production capacity of 100,000 metric tons/year. Following completion, which is scheduled in November 2021, the company's acrylic acid production capacity in Indonesia will increase to 240,000 metric tons/year. Nippon Shokubai says that acrylic acid, one of the company's core businesses, has seen steady growth in demand as a key raw material for superabsorbent polymers(SAP) and acrylates. Demand and supply for acrylic acid have been very tight, mainly in Asia, in recent years, the company says.
