Bringing new ideas to established markets proves successful. U.S. producers of raisins and prunes are using new and innovative ideas, along with promotional programs, to increase sales and awareness in previously established markets overseas. As pan of their marketing programs, many growers and industry associations are impart ing product knowledge into in-store demonstrations. In addition, :aisin and prune industry members are capitalizing on the bakery use of both commodities for complementary usage suggestions with consumers. However, one major obstacle to increasing demand and subsequent sales even further is constant competition from countries with lower production and labor costs. Although for some countries, better quality remains more important than lower prices.
