The effects of B are investigated on magnetic andmagnetostrictive properties of Tb-Fe thin films over a wide Bcontent range up to 5.59% at.%. In trinsic saturation propertiessuch as saturation magnetization and magnetostriction are foundto decrease with increasing B content. The B content dependenceof in-plane anisotropy is rather complicated for thin films with alow Tb content where in-plane anisotropy of B-free thin films isweak; in-plane anisotropy deteriorates with a small B addition,but it is enhanced by the addition of a large amount of B.However, anisotropy is little affected by the B addition for thinfilms with the high Tb fractions where strong in-plane anisotropyalready exists without the addition of B. Over the wholecomposition range examined in this work, the coercive forcetends to decrease with increasing Bcontent. A very largemagnetostriction of 144 ppm at a magnetic field of 30 Oe, whichis largest reported so far in Tb-Fe based thin films, is achieved ina (Tb_(0.46)Fe_(0.54))_(94.41)B_(5.59) thin film.
