Effect of chemical (N-nitrosoethylurea, 1,4-bis-diasoacetylbutan) and physical (#gamma#-rays, laser and SHF-radiation, electric and magnetic fields) mutagens on regeneration ability of callus cultures of 5 varieties and 2 hybrids of the common winter wheat has been studied. It has been established that the effect of chemical mutagens and #gamma#-rays led to considerable decrease of regeneration ability and weakening of plants-regenerants. The rest of physical factors exerted both inhibiting and stimulating effect. Manifestation of the effect of mutagens depended on the genotype and method of treatment. Frequency of hereditary variations in the R_2M_2 progeny exceeded the level of somaclonal variability.
