Nonferrous exports dip, but still strong

U.S. non-ferrous scrap exports continued to show strength in June even though they slipped slightly from May. Copper scrap shipments inched upward slightly, and stronger offshore sales of lead, nickel and zinc also helped largely offset volumes lost in the hard-hit aluminum scrap market. U.S. nonferrous scrap exports tracked by AMM totaled 318,669 short tons in June, down 0.4 percent from May's record 320,070 tons, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Commerce Department. June's exports were the second-highest monthly total.
