摘要

For students, distance education means wider educational choices that are close to home, leading in turn to better employment opportunities. For teachers and educational institutions, it means more students, increased tuition revenue, and additional consumers of advanced coursework or degrees. Even courses that are free of charge, such as those offered by state libraries or state associations, can lead to greater revenue in terms of grant support or a larger membership pool. In the case of library education, the student is the immediate consumer, but the eventual winner is the library that employs those who receive the degrees or certificates offered by distance programs. As the following examples from the Ohio Library Council and Lexington (Ky.) Community College show, producers as well as consumers can benefit from designing supply to meet demand. Best of all, because these products are not tied to any physical locale, they're even available to you, wherever you might be.
