摘要

WET conditions over the past six months have put lotfeeders on alert for an increased risk of toxin-producing fungi and moulds - known as mycotoxins -contaminating hay and threatening stock health. Feedworks ruminant business manager Ian Sawyer, Melbourne, said this was the biggest year he had seen for fungal growth in fodder in eastern Australia since he began in the business in the mid-1980s. "The season started wet and cool and then got wet and warmer, so we saw a lot of fungal growth on grain and forages," he said.
