ALFA has stepped up its campaign to overturn the Queensland Government's current support for a mandate of ethanol content in regular unleaded petrol. In April we commissioned Newspoll to undertake a survey of Queensland consumers regarding the proposed ethanol mandate and its potential impacts. In particular we sought perceptions regarding the fuel and food price impact of the mandate and whether consumers felt that Government policy should focus on ethanol production from non-food-based products ornot. The survey found that 37% of respondents say the mandate will increase the amount of money spent on fuel (47% say fuel prices will remain the same), 55% say it will increase the price of food (37% say it will stay the same) and 64% say that the Government should place policy priority on producing ethanol from non-food-based products. A press release was subsequently produced to highlight the results.
