IN THE US industry the practice of identifying and removing PI animals from high-risk, auction barn derived lines of calves is fairly significant. While some calves are marketed to lotfeeders and stockers as source-verified Pi-free, usually as part of a best practice preconditioning program, most Pis that are tested at arrival are due to an inability to effectively provide effective immunity to BVDV prior to procurement.
