"It depends on which bit of the country you live in," I pontificated. "Here, in London, I'd say spring started at the end of March or the beginning of April." "So, it gets later as you go north?" "Exactly. You'd have to live in the Arctic Circle for it to be at the end of May!" "All right, then," she continued calmly. "What would youcall the end of May in Britain?" To which I replied, emphatically: "I would say the end of May was almost the beginning of summer."
