仙台の野生メダ力の保全に向けた取り組み

After the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011,a wild Medaka population in the coastal area in Sendai city disappeared. On the other hand, we caught some Medaka in 2010 in a small stream near the paddy field in the coastal area and reared these fish in artificial rearing ponds. So after 2012, we started conservation activity of the Medaka to re-build their wild population by use of the rearing fish. For these purposes, we enhanced the Medaka rearing program with different types of rearing environments including bio-topes and foster home systems. In this conservation activity, on the other hand, we did not secure a suitable aquatic environment for the wild Medaka due to the new constriction of paddy fields and agricultural waterways after the Tsunami. Now therefore, we attempt to acquire their new habitat using some new paddy fields where we do not use any agricultural chemicals. Thus we did not reach our goal line. However, we already obtained important achievements such as sympathize with conservation of wild Medaka in Sendai city after the disasters.
