Drug development is essentially the process of transforming scientific discovery into care for patients in need. Given that government funding and the public healthcare system play a pivotal role in the availability of drugs to patients, the establishment of a more efficient development and registration process will only be realized through the concerted efforts of both public and private sectors. As a strong interdependency exists between policymakers and private enterprise, a public-private partnership needs to be put into place to accelerate the development of drugs in a more cost-efficient and timely manner.
