In 1976, when Michael and I bought our small ranch in the North-lem California wine country, the menagerie included 440 Bartlett pear trees, 4200 French prunes, a tiny old house, a huge 1910 redwood barn and one rose — the classic 'Peace'!The prunes and pears slowly gave way to Chardonnay and Sauvi-gnon Blanc, we re-designed and enlarged the house and the barn became home to a zillion projects. But it's the roses that have now become the stars of the whole shebang!Enthralled by the fantastic catalogues of Roses of Yesterday and Today and Vintage Gardens, and encouraged by the writings of heritage rosarian, Miriam Wilkins, I began following the "JUST SAY YES!" philosophy when ordering them. After giving in to suchimpulse buying for 30 years, the collection now numbers over 650 varieties of roses — from all classes, in all sizes and from all historical periods.
