In order to evaluate the teletraffic in cellular networks, we have measured the motion of mobile platforms and estimated cell dwell time by overlaying hypothetical cells on the measured loci. As a result, the cell dwell time of taxis does not follow an exponential distribution as bad previously been presumed, but is, in fact, well described by a log-normal distribution. And furthermore, we found that the cell dwell time data exhibit self-similarity. In this paper, we evaluated the effects of self-similarity in cell dwell time of mobile terminals on teletraffic characteristics by computer simulations. The stronger self-similarity in cell dwell time results in higher new call blocking rate and handoff failure rate.
