An international cooperation project: the mine safety and environmental training center in copiapo, chile

An international cooperation project titled as TheMine Safety and Environmental Training Center Project has beenimplemented at the city of Copiapo in the Republic of Chile sinceJuly 1994. The executing organizations are Japan InternationalCooperation Agency (JICA) and National Service of Geology andMining (SERNAGEOMIN), Ministry of Mining of Chile.The overall goal of the project is to contribute to the improvementof the situation on mine accident and mine pollution in metallicand non-metallic mining industry of Chile through establishing apermanent training institution. To attain this overall goal,buildings and facilities were constructed by the Chilean side and aseries of necessary equipment and technical transfer have beengiven by Japanese side. As the result of the project activity, theCenter has attained the capacity to offer relevant training coursesrequired for various levels of professionals, workers and artisanminers. The project terminated with great success by June 1999.This report shows how the project was organized, implemented and evaluated.
