Smell the roses, hear the music: the nashville music garden

Boot Scooters dance at the county fair as Pam Tillis' recording intones a sad song of "Blue Rose," a lonely woman whose "petals have been crushed along the way" and who is "just growing bluer everyday." Lynn Anderson still belts out her famous lyrics,"I beg your pardon — I never promised you a rose garden." Roses and music are often joined, and on September 29, 2009, a number of music celebrities formally dedicated the Nashville Music Garden (see the March/April 2008 issue of American Rose, pages 62-63), planted adjacent to the Country Music Hall of Fame and the world renowned classical music Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Roses in this "promised" garden are from the Nashville Music Collection, a special group of roses named for artists, entertainment icons and book and song titles related to the city's entertainment heritage.
