A filter for removing the dust or pollen has been used as a Cabin Air Filter (CAF) for the purpose of cleaning the air in the cabin since 1980's. Recently, as the interest in the health is increasing, a filter with the function of removing the odors and the harmful gases by the active carbon is spreading. This deodorization by the active carbon makes the use of the physical adsorption on its surface, and is effective for most of the odors or gases. But the demerit of the active carbon is that a large amount can not be used, because the active carbon does not maintain the capture performance for aldehydes (they are included in the vehicle emission or the cigarette smoke etc.), which are becoming social interest as a cause of chemical sensitivity, due to a small amount of adsorption, and release of the captured aldehydes with increasing the temperature or changing the concentration of the gas. The point of the Aldehydes Capture Material (ACM) we have developed is that for aldehydes which are difficult to adsorb physically in a gas-phase, the original chemical reaction of the aldehydes in a water solution has been also realized on the solid surface using the combination of the aldehyde reacting reagent (resorcin) and the water-confining support. The features of ACM are as follows; ① ACM has a large amount of adsorption and maintains aldehydes capture performance for a longer term than active carbon.② ACM never releases aldehydes independently of the temperature or the concentration of the gas. CAF for vehicles of Mazda which this ACM with the active carbon is applied can not only improve the aldehyde capture performance but also use the large amount of active carbon which are limited in usage. Therefore ACM can improve the performance for the whole odors drastically.
