Present situation and future prospect of chicken meat production and consumption in Asia - a study of selected nine countries.

Information is presented on poultry population, chicken meat consumption and chicken meat production trends since the 1970s in nine Asian countries (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand, Philippines, Iran, Japan, Taiwan and the Korea Republic). Income elasticities of demand for chicken meat and estimates of production and consumption in the year 2000 are also presented. It is concluded that the outlook for the poultry industry is promising. Consumption has increased dramatically in these countriesand is likely to continue, but at a slower pace.
