Use of paper as a support for immobilized peroxidase in a test method for the determination of mercury (II) traces

A comparative study has been performed on the activity and stability of horseradish peroxidase preparations immobilized on different papers and their suitability for the determination Of mercury(II). A test procedure is developed for the determination of mercury(II) by its inhibiting effect on the immobilized enzyme in the presence of thiourea in the reaction of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine oxidation by hydrogen peroxide with the visual detection of the rate of the enzymatic process. The detection limit for mercury(II) is 5-10 pg/mL (RSD <= 4%, P = 0.95, n = 6).
