Association of serum uric acid level with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its components

To investigate the correlation of serum uric acid (SUA) with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and its components in Gansu province, China. Methods: A random, multistage cross-sectional study was conducted among adults (20-74 years old) in Gansu province. In total, 28,368 residents were divided into groups by the level of SUA or components of MS to analyze the relationship between SUA and MS. Conclusions: There was a significant association between SUA level and MS as well as its components. With the increased SUA level, the risk of multiple metabolic abnormality was increased. Comprehensive prevention and control should be taken for the reduction of risk factors, and much attention should be paid to monitor SUA levels.
