ExxonMobil has confirmed it will drill its delayed wildcat off Liberia before the end of the year with the government hoping that this, the country's final remaining offshore commitment well, will uncover its first commercial discovery. The well will target the Mesurado prospect in a Turanian to Lower Campanian Turbidite channel/fan complex in LB-13. National oil company NOCAL, which is still battling charges of corruption, said: "ExxonMobil has reaffirmed its commitment to drilling one exploratory well in LB-13 during the fourth quarter of 2016. According to ExxonMobil, planning for the drilling campaign is now fully underway and its Environmental Impact Assessment Plan has been submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia." Hopes for success will remain muted after ten deepwa-ter wells in recent years by Chevron, African Petroleum and Anadarko have failed to find a commercial discovery although there have been a series of oil shows.
