Mauritanian Chinguetti life extended by new reserves

The ill-fated Chinguetti field off Mauritania looks set to continue to be economic for longer than expected. The field was supposed to be a flagship for deepwater Mauritania but production has been troubled almost since first production back in 2006 and at one point partner Sterling Energy said that it feared output could be halted as early as 2011. Gross production via the Berge Helene FPSO averaged around 6,100 b/d last year compared to an expected peak figure of 70,000 b/d.
