Areva Again Tries to Cool Bangui's Anger

The more time passes, the less likely it seems that French nuclear group Areva will begin mining this year at the Bakouma deposit in the south east of the Central African Republic. This has ruffled feathers in Bangui. The director of its subsidiary, Areva Ressources Centrafrique, makes no secret of the fact. In a letter dated January 29 to the CAR minister for mines, Sylvain Ndoutingai, Henri de Dinechin repeats that the French company wishes to mine the deposit "in the shortest possible time" but does not set any precise date for this.
