Cobalt adds tie-back following Angola pre-salt double

Cobalt International is to tie back one of its two new pre-salt discoveries off Angola to its existing project and is waiting for more results from a test on the other. Both the Lontra well in Block 20 and the Mavinga well in Block 21 have come in positively but with much more information needed on both. Mavinga was drilled around 13km from the existing Cameia discovery and encountered 100ft (30m) of net oil pay. The discovery was confirmed by the successful production of oil from mini drill stem tests, direct pressure and permeability measurements, and log and core analyses. However, efforts to estab-lish a sustained flow rate from a full drill stem test were not successful, with Cobalt keen to point out this was because of operational issues.
