摘要

Aim of this work was to improve precorneal retention and evaluation of antimicrobial activity of positively charged submicron emulsion (SE) contained ciprofloxacin in ion paired form. Ciprofloxacin (CF) ion-paired with potassium sorbate (PS) expected to increase the lipophilicity and entrapment of CF in the lipid phase of SE, surface of SE droplets was positively charged by chitosan (CN). In-vitro MIC value 0.0687 +/- 0.002 (staphylococcus aureus) and 0.0775 +/- 0.004 (pseudomonas aeruginosa) for SE-CN-CF-PS and 0.195 +/- 0.02 (staphylococcus aureus) and 0.401 +/- 0.03 (pseudomonas aeruginosa) for control. The ocular irritancy test was performed using HET-CAM. Entrapment of CF improved, the release was prolonged and AMA enhanced. HET-CAM results with no irritation. Thus, it can be concluded that the SE of CF-PS complex in which surface was charged positively may hold some promise in ocular delivery for severe infections.
