Nutritional risk assessment and cultural validation of the modified NUTRIC score in critically ill patients—A multicenter prospective cohort study

It is important to emphasize that the purpose of this project was not to develop a new prediction model, but rather to assess the effectiveness of the previously developed NUTRIC score in a large Portuguese sample of polyvalent intensive care units. The original development and subsequent validation of the NUTRIC score have been previously described in detail [1,2]. When the NUTRIC score was originally developed, a parsimonious point-based approach based on theoretical rather than data-driven considerations was used to select the model, based on a smaller sample than the current effectiveness sample. The simple theoretical based model was found to compare favorably to a more complex data-driven model.
