The present invention relates to a supplement to be enterally administered for maintaining or restoring the intestinal barrier of the critically or chronically ill patients or people with malnutrition. Said supplement contains, in the form of a solution (the amounts indicated respectively referring to one daily dose), a) between 15 and 70 g of glutamine and/or a glutamine precursor, b) at least two representatives from the group of substances acting as antioxidants, and c) between 0.5 and 10 g of short-chained fatty acids and/or short-chained fatty acid precursors.
