USA: US Light-Truck demand remains buoyant as passenger cars tumble

The US half-year sales share going to Light-Trucks as distinct from conventional passenger cars, has zoomed to the second highest level on record as growing numbers of US consumers keep dumping their conventionally bodied cars for Light-Trucks. Testament to US consumers' strongly rekindled interest in Light-Trucks and SUV-Crossovers in particular, due in large measure to today's comparatively cheap fuel, vehicles in the Light-Truck category accounted for 53.6 per cent of half-year US Light-Vehicle sales. In retrospect, that compares to a recent low of just 45.4 per cent during 2009, directly following the height of the global fuel price explosion in mid 2008.
