VENICE is surely one of the most romantic cities in Europe, if not the world. Over the centuries, its ancient buildings have inspired countless artists, painters, sculptors, musicians and poets. It draws visitors from all over the world, but its future is far from assured. Rising sea levels are among the most serious threats to the city, but damage by mass tourism is another equally real concern.
