Indigenous Upland Crops and Fruit Trees Cultivated in the Local Farming Systems in West Java, Indonesia

摘要

Farmers have cultivated and maintained their own crops for a long time. These crops, which are called local varieties, have successfully adapted to their local environments. Generally, local varieties are now confronted with gradual extinction due tothe rapid industrialization and urbanization of rural areas, influx of commercialization to villages, widespread use of high-yielding varieties, destruction of agricultural land for the construction of buildings, railways and roads, etc. The purpose of the present research is to survey indigenous crops cultivated in West Jawa by interviewing farmers/villagers about their traditional cultural methods and use of crops including legumes, vegetables and fruit trees.
