You may have a need, as I've had, for that one of kind bearing, sliding mount, ball joint, or low friction sliding surface. Maybe that next project needs rotary to linear translation on a lathe, mill, or tool changer. Here the off the shelf options are pretty few, i.e. brass nuts on Acme threaded rod or recirculating ball screws/nuts.
