The changes to the extruder were almost so numerous as to make them a separate article. First, and very important, is that you need to add a part fan to cool any PLA part as it is printed. (The fans are usually not desired or used with ABS material.) Most of the cooling fan designs I have seen, while adequate for some applications, don't really address the important issue of airflow cooling the nozzle.
