Bis(diphenyl)chromium(I) fullerides and a 1 :1 mixture of bis(ethylbenzene)chromium(I) fulleride homologues have been obtained.The bis(arene)chro-mium(I) molecules are in cationic form as probed by IR spectroscopy and ESR.The molecular structure of bis(diphenyl)chromium(I) fulleride was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.At 100 K,the radical anions C_(60)~(-·) in this compound are linked into a dimer by an ordinary bond.Heating bis(diphenyl)chromium(I) fulleride and the mixture of bis(ethylbenzene)chro-mium(I) fulleride homologues at 473 K leads to destruction of the bis(arene)chromium structure.At 293 K,the radical anions C_(60)~(-·) are disordered and do not form dimers.
