As the final changeover to its new computer system takes place, NMR members will soon be able to specify the reports they receive from the service. National Milk Records is taking a huge step forward in processing data from its 1.25 million cows. NewNMR-owned computers in the Harrogate and Yeovil regional offices will replace the old Milk Marketing Board mainframe computer. This autumn the umbilical cord will finally be cut when report printing is moved from Thames Ditton into the regions. As NMR'sDouglas Batchelor points out, this provides a great opportunity for an improved service to farmers. NMR systems and reports were last changed in 1987. Since then, the MMB has gone and the pressures of economic dairy farming have increased creating more need for management information.
