Asustainable dairy system is one that is not only socially and environmentally acceptable, but also profitable, says Dr Jessica Cooke, research scientist with Volac.She says: "From point of birth to leaving the milking herd, it is possible to target sustainability improvements throughout the animal's life by managing her to her genetic potential. Clearly, getting her in-calf as quickly as possible is a key element within this, from both financial and feed resource points of view."
