Defeating Mycotoxins

Mycotoxins routinely occur in feeds. Weather conditions make them worse in some years and areas. But the fact is: dairy producers deal with some level of mycotoxins all the time.I was recently asked to troubleshoot a dairy herd with a 90+ lb average milk yield. Management and veterinary care was excellent. The farm was immaculate. Sanitation was exceptional. You could wear dress shoes on the cow lot. The owners were well-informed and knew all the herd data, almost from memory. A good herd health program was in place, with routine veterinary visits. Despite all this, the cows had recently suffered a 6 lb loss in milk, along : with an increase in disease (especially in fresh cows).The culling rate had increased. Attempts to treat disease had failed to re- duce problems.
