On November 30,2013, an explosion and fire occurred at the UCB Farchim SA site in Switzerland. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities occurred. The source of the explosion was an electrical connection located in the basement of a building, so the physical damage was extensive. According to Eric Fumiere, UCB Risk Manager, "We learned many lessons. For example, the electricity network should be located outside of the building. It seems elementary but the fact that ours was located inside means the initial explosion caused heavy damage even before the fire."1
