Nursery owners must embrace change to excel or simply survice. Should nurserymen be entrepreneurs? Essentially an entrepreneur is someone who organises, operates and assumes the risks associated with a business venture. In that sense, most nursery owners fit the bill. But entrepreneurial thinking involves something more. The true entrepreneur is alert to business opportunities, adventurous, full of ideas, innovative and able to thrive on change. And change has become an inescapable factor in plant production. Today's dynamic business climate means there is a tendency to look back on the period from the 1970s through to the mid-1980s as the halcyon days of the nursery stock sector.
