The technology behind testing materials and their surroundings for the presence of asbestos fibres has been unchanged for decades. Now, two new devices are nearing launch: one that uses infrared technology to detect asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in surveys without the need for a physical sample; the other designed to provide an audible alert during maintenance or demolition work if fibres have been released to the air, to reduce the risk of exposure to airborne asbestos.
