Providing consistent and accurate science in medical publishing: How do we get there?

Each medical journal provides guidelines for authors. As expected, there are variations in article categories, peer review processes, and content depending on the audience or readership of the specific journals. The goal of all medical journals should be accurate and clearly written manuscripts that meet educational gaps in practice and improve patient care. It is my responsibility and that of our section editors to ensure that the American Journal of Roentgenology is clinically useful and scientifically accurate. In short, we are responsible for all journal content. My responsibility as editor in chief also includes prompt publication of corrections and retractions and provision of a forum for criticism or additional ideas related to published manuscripts (Letters to the Editor).We continue to stress that authors follow the International Committee of Medical Journal Editor guidelines (www.ICMJE.org) and the author guidelines for the specific AJR article type they select. In the past, we have provided a number of editorials related to author, reviewer, and editor misconduct [1-3].
