Colin Cameron, Jay Chaudhuri, Sander van Rootselaar, Bob van der Kuil, and Steffen Paeper, South Stream Transport B.V., the Netherlands, and Peter Dixon, Baker Hughes, the Netherlands, provide a thorough overview of the dry pre-commissioning of TurkStream's pipelines. The TurkStream offshore pipelines traverse the Black Sea over a distance of over 940 km (585 miles) at a maximum water depth of more than 2200 m (7300 ft). Designed to the highest technical and safety standards and meticulously implemented processes for fabrication, transport, and offshore construction, the TurkStream offshore pipelines were deemed suitable for waiving the in-situ hydrotest, in compliance with DNV GL's exacting standards. The following article outlines TurkStream's major design elements. Further, it describes how the project team, composed of South Stream Transport B.V. and Baker Hughes, successfully managed dry pre-commissioning of an entire offshore pipeline system including design, engineering, and operation of inspection tool trains with slugs of mono ethylene glycol (MEG) and nitrogen (N_2). The TurkStream offshore pipelines were successfully cleaned and gauged; fully complying with the certification agency's prerequisites for waiving the full system hydrotest.
