摘要

Ruben Kuri, Arendal, Mexico, and IPLOCA President 2016 - 2017, discusses the Ramones II Norte pipeline and the challenges faced during its construction. As Mexico's population continues to grow, so does its energy sector, increasing the demand for natural gas in homes and industrial facilities. Over the last 10 years, natural gas demand in Mexico has increased at a rate of 5.7% (CAGR) and 5.9% in the midwestern region. Still, during the past 40 years, neither Pemex - the Mexican state-owned petroleum company - nor any other participant in the natural gas market had developed a project in Mexico that was similar to the unprecedented Los Ramones pipeline. The Mexican government made a strategic decision in order to boost industrial development in Mexico: the construction of a natural gas pipeline that travels south from the US border to the centre of Mexico.
