Potash exploration on both sides of the South Atlantic - Similarities and differences in the deposits and how these influence their appraisal

Starting in the 1950s, exploration campaigns for the prospecting and detailed investigation of potash deposits have been carried out on both sides of the South Atlantic. The findings show that the salt sequences of approximately the same age (Aptian, [7]), which formed on both sides of the South Atlantic, are characterised by a similar development of the evaporite basin only in the lower parts. In contrast, the middle and upper parts of the respective salt sequence show clearer differences in the lithological and structural formation of the evaporite rocks, which were brought about by the different conditions under which they were formed and their differing development in a broader geological context.
