The beginning of 2020 has been slow in the West African floater market with few changes to the status quo. The drillship sector consists of 23 units in total with 8 of them under contract. Of those eight units, seven are contracted into at least fourth quarter 2020. The other unit, Maersk Voyager, is contracted into mid-third quarter 2020. Of the remaining units, 12 are warm or hot stacked; however, Stena IceMAX is expected to begin mobilisation to Canada during March. Sonangol Quenguela is understood to remain in the yard at Walvis Bay, Namibia, while it undergoes final preparations for entering the active fleet. Finally, Valaris DS-3 and Valaris DS-5 remain cold stacked in the Canary Islands.
