LONG TERM EFFECTS OF TWO SMOKE MOSQUITO TABLETS ON HEMATOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF RAT BLOOD

The present study was designed to investigate the effect of two types of mosquito- smoke tablet: Ezalo (Ez) containing bioallethrin, pyrethrins, and piperonyl hutoxide (PR); and Raid (Ra) containing pyrethrum extract and penjamin forty, on two groupsof male rates exposed individually 1h per day, 6 days per week, along for 90 doses. Treated and untreated animals were sacrificed by cervical decapitation 24 hr after exposure. Ra treatments had an intrinsic reduction on Hb after 90 doses. Total erythrocyte (TEC) counts were decreased (P< 0.05) after 90 doses of the two tested brands. Both tablets showed a high reduction in packed cell volume (PCV) compared with control. Reduction percentages of PCV were calculated to be 19.12 and 24.41 % for Ra and Eztreatment respectively. The two examined tablets caused fluctuated effects on total leucocytes (TLC) counts. Both tablets didn't affect total protein content and serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity. However, reduction in serum alanine aminotransjerase (ALT) activity, cholesterol and total lipids were also observed, Neither Ra nor Ez treatments caused any significant effect on lungs weights. Liver and spleen weights showed a significant increase as compared to untreated animals. Testes weights were significantly decreased by about 46% and 18% in Ra and Ez treatments respectively after 90 doses.
