The existing state, future change trends in land-use and food production capacities in China

摘要

This paper forecasts major trends behind theconversion of arable land to nonagricultural uses by the year 2030,as well as food production capacities in China. It was found thatagricultural structure adjustment, urbanization andindustrialization will play an equally important role in reducing thegross quantity of arable land. In order to conserve high-qualityfarmland it is necessary to increase the intensity of nonagriculturalland uses measures. The findings show that strengtheningprotection measures for arable land, including land reorganization,land reclamation and land restoration, will significantly contributeto maintaining the acreage of arable land and enhancing foodproduction capacities.
