Making well-advised choices when forage quality is poor

IN MANY REGIONS ACROSS Canada, forage harvested this summer may have a negative effect on milk production and in some cases, a negative effect on animal health when fed to cows this coming autumn and winter. In many areas throughout Canada, crops were damaged by excessive rain and flooding. Sunlight was at an all-time low in many areas, which reduced the synthesis of sugars by photosynthesis and the storage of these carbohydrates in forage for milk production.
