Fiber optic project completed in Guinea

The Societe de Gestion et d'Exploitation du Backbone National (SOGEB), which is responsible for the management and operation of optical fiber in Guinea, announced that a major project has been completed, with the national fiber-optic network now reaching a total length of 4,352 km. The Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy first announced plans to deploy the national fiber backbone in 2012. China's Huawei won a US$238 million contract to construct the fiber-optic network, dubbed "National Backbone." Work on laying the cables began in July 2015.
