LAST MONTH, after reviewing the latest model of the Polo GTI, we looked back at the earliest versions from 1998-2001 that were powered by the high-revving 125 PS 1.6-litre 16-valve, an engine that some consider to be a proper powerplant for a potent Polo. But all that was soon to change with the increasing use of turbocharged petrol engines which followed the introduction of the Mk 4 Golf GTI 1.8T in the late Nineties.
